In 2019, she came out as transgender and underwent testosterone suppression for a year in order to qualify as a transgender athlete under NCAA rules.

She competed on a national level in the Women’s 60m hurdles and 200m dash events after qualifying for the NCAA Division II track and field. She finished third and seventh, respectively. The same year, she finished first in the 400m hurdles finals. Cece was interviewed by several media outlets and sports news channels after becoming the first trans woman to win an NCAA championship in 2019.

She won the 400m hurdle and the 100m hurdle at the New England outdoor championships the same year. She also won first place in the 400m hurdles event at the Northeast-1 outdoor track and field championship. Later in 2020-21, she competed in selection trials for the 400m hurdles event at the 2020 Olympics, where she was screened in the first round but was unable to advance due to her failure to meet the testosterone threshold for trans athletes.
