The late actor dropped the sub-acteur ‘U’ in his last name after taking to the stage. James King Aurness was born on 26 May 1923 in Minneapolis, USA. His father, Rolf Virkler Aurness, worked as an entrepreneur while his girlfriend, Ruth Duesler, met as a journalist for the first time.

He has been the first of his two kids to have a younger child, Peter Graves, born to his parents. All that looks like a single-family split up in a fractured state after his parents had divorced in the 1940s.

Regarding preparation, James Arness attended the graduate school of John Burroughs before he attended high school in Washburn. In 1942, he moved to West High where he earned his degree. When he graduated, the actor took up menial jobs; he also worked in a jewelry store as a loader and courier.
