Lauren McCluskey was an American Student as well as an Athlete from Pullman, Washington. Lauren McCluskey was a student at the University of Utah Track Athlete who was killed on Monday 22nd October 2018 by a 37 years old, Melvin Rowland. Lauren was an outstanding student majoring in Communication and was excited to graduate in May 2019. She was a 2015 honors graduate of Pullman High School where she was Washington state champion in the high jump and the school record holder in the 100-meter hurdles. She was a senior student-athlete on the University of Utah track team.

Death of Lauren McCluskey

Lauren McCluskey died on 22nd October 2018. She was shot and killed at night by Melvin Rowland. Rowland was also a registered sex offender and he also convicted of forcible sexual abuse a minor in the year 2004.

Her dead body was found in the back seat of a park near a residential hall on campus.

Her murderer and past boyfriend, Melvin Rowland also killed himself after an hour inside a nearby church. He was found dead in a church in Salt Lake City around 1 a.m. Tuesday 23rd October 2018. He died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. But he disappeared from the Fortitude Treatment Center a few days back.

Who Shot Lauren McCluskey?

The 21-year-old senior was reportedly talking to her mom, Jill McCluskey, on the phone at the time of the attack. “Suddenly I hear her yell, ‘No, no, no!’ Jill said in a statement released on Twitter. “I thought she might have been in a car accident.”

The police investigation is still underway, according to the press release, but the suspected killer is 37-year-old Melvin Rowland. Authorities believe McCluskey and Rowland had a “prior relationship,” which might have prompted the attack, according to The Salt Lake Tribune. He allegedly shot and killed her, before fleeing the scene and igniting a manhunt.

Utah Police Chief Dale Brophy told that Lauren’s mother was also responsible for her death.

Suddenly, she heard her yell, “No, no, no!” Jill thought at first that she might have had a car accident. That was the last the mother heard from her. The family called 911 only to later learn that their daughter had been shot.
