We are a product of our environment more often than not. A sum of the people and circumstances around us as we grow into the world. Michael W. Smith, who grew up in the church as the son of Paul and Barbara Smith, has lived as a Christian musician throughout his life. He was born on 7 October 1957 in Kenova, West Virginia, into a Christian couple. His parents, who worked as oil refinery workers and caterers, were not particularly rich; they were simple men (mother). However, when Michael fell in love with the piano of a church, they soaked the Word of God in their child, bringing it into the church as frequently as they could.
He was a devoted Christian, who through music had found his way to Christ. By his love of piano, he joined the Choral and by the time Michael was ten years old.
His Christian belief was helped by the support of his friends and family, but, unfortunately, Michael W Smith lost the former when they left for college to the south. He found companionship with alcohol and drugs as a way to cope with the loneliness and misery of being alone. Then Michael tried to study, apply and enroll at the University of Marshall, but soon gave way after a semester.
Though Michael’s talents as a songwriter, musician, and his friend are at a drug-fueled stage, Shane Keister admonished him, in the pursuit of a career as a professional musician, to use his very apparent talents for Nashville. He was a successful musician and a Christian, but he decided in 1978 to relocate at his friend’s advice.
Michael joined a modern group of Christian music called Higher Ground with this move to Nashwille. After years, Michele began to find strength in the Christian faith which he once lost, as he consecrated his life to Jesus Christ, through his continued association with the Christian group.
In 1981 he transformed into a full-time Christian and was then awarded a contract to Meadowgreen Music executives. His composing skills had been noticed, and some artists had put him to a job, including Amy Grant, Sandi Patty, Gather, and several others. They also had written for him.
