He was born to a mother, Queen Elizabeth II, and a father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. He is the third child and second son. He was baptized in the Palace’s Music Room in April 1960. He is the namesake of his paternal grandfather, Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark. He obtained his early education at Buckingham Palace. He was then sent to Heatherdown School near Ascot in Berkshire. He then entered Gordonstoun in September 1973. He spent six months participating in an exchange program to Lakefield College School in Canada. He left Gordonstoun with A-Levels in English, history, economics, and political science in 1979.
He did not get to university. Instead, he entered the Britannia Royal Naval College at Dartmouth.

Military Career
He joined the Royal Navy in 1979.
He underwent various sporting tests and examinations at the Aircrew Selection Center at RAF Biggin Hill.
He was enrolled at the Royal Naval College Flight during March and April 1979, where he took pilot training. He was accepted as a trainee helicopter pilot in May 1979.
He was appointed as a midshipman in September 1979. He entered Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth.
He also took the Royal Marines All Arms Commando Course during 1980.
He passed out from Dartmouth and the went on to elementary flying training with the Royal Air Force at RAF Leeming.
He also went to take basic flying training with the navy at HMS Seahawk. He learned to fly the Gazelle helicopter.
He received his wings and then moved onto more advanced training on the Sea King helicopter.
He conducted operational flying training until 1982.
He joined a carrier-based squadron, 820 Naval Air Squadron, serving aboard the aircraft carrier, HMS Invincible.
Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands in April 1982, that led to the Falklands War. Prince Andrew served as a Sea King helicopter co-pilot, flying on missions that included anti-submarine warfare and anti-surface warfare, Exocet missile decoy, casualty evacuation, transport, and search and air rescue.
He remained with Invincible until 1983.
He was transferred to RNAS Portland in late 1983, where he was trained to fly the Lynx helicopter.
He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 February 1984.
He served aboard HMS Brazen as a flight pilot until 1986.
He then transferred to General List in October 1986.
He enrolled in a four-month helicopter warfare instructor’s course at RNAS Yeovilton.
After graduating, he served as a helicopter warfare officer in 702 Naval Air Squadron from February 1987 to 1988.
He also served as an officer of the Watch and Assistant Navigating Officer on HMS Edinburgh until 1989.
He was promoted to Lieutenant-Commander in February 1992.
He commanded the Hunt-class minehunter HMS Cottesmore from 1993 to 1994.
He served as Senior Pilot of 815 Naval Air Squadron from 1995 to 1996.
He was promoted to Commander in April 1999.
He finished his active naval career at the British Ministry of Defence in 2001, after he became an officer of the Diplomatic Directorate of the Naval Staff.

Prince Andrew was friends with American financier and convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein. After a series of sex abuse cases landed against Jeffrey Epstein, Prince Andrew was one of the high profile name dragged into the Epstein controversy. A woman named Virginia Roberts Giuffre made allegations against Prince Andrew that he was one of the men who had sex with her while she was a teenager. She alleged Epstein paid her 10,000 pounds to have sex with the Duke. She alleged that she was 17 when she had sex with Duke. The Duke and Roberts were also photographed together with the Duke’s arm around her waist. The allegations have as of early 2015, not been tested in any court. A second girl, Joanne Sjoberg gave photo evidence alleging that Prince Andrew had placed his hand on her breast while seated with Roberts in Epstein’s mansion.
