Queen Elizabeth II and her first official engagement in 2022
It was the beginning of the Platinum Jubilee year for Queen Elizabeth II. And this was her first official engagement this year in 2022. The Queen attended several events on this occasion. She was the host of a reception held for members of the local community and volunteer groups in the ballroom of Sandringham House. The guest list included members of local charities West Norfolk Befriending and Little Discoverers. Additionally, the members of the Women’s Institute Sandringham branch also joined her. The Queen has been a member of this group for many years now.
Queen Elizabeth wore a light blue dress for this reception. This dress had a beautiful floral embroidery on it. Her special dressmaker and confidante Angela Kelly had created this dress for her. She had on her signature pearl earrings and necklace. She held a black handbag. And there were two Nizam of Hyderabad rose brooches pinned to her dress.
Queen Elizabeth and her walking stick
While attending this event, the queen used the support of a light walking stick. It helped her to move around the room. She was holding it while she cut the beautiful white and purple cake. This came had the decoration on it and had the insignia of the upcoming Platinum Jubilee.
But this is not the first time that the queen is using a walking stick to walk around. She had used it in October 2021 while attending a service at Westminster Abbey alongside her daughter Princess Anne. Earlier around twenty years ago, the queen had a knee surgery and was on crutches during the recovery period post-surgery.
Why is the queen using walking stick?
The queen is now 95 years old. She is aged and has old-age problems. She does not have any medical reason to necessitate use of a walking stick. But she is taking the help of the walking stick for support only. This is what a royal source had stated in October 2021.
Again, the queen had used the stick at the end of the same month when she did the official opening of the Senedd in Cardiff.
But on this recent occasion, the queen was in good spirits. On been shown the cake, she smiled and wanted the public to have a look at its design. She said:
“I don’t mind, I don’t matter!”
“Well, I think I can probably read it upside down too.”
And later she said:
“I think I’ll just put a knife in it… somebody else can do the rest of it!”
But her Twitter fans were happy that she was able to make it for the events.
