Just a few days before on September 12, 2019, on the “Saturday Night Live” it was announced that the team was hiring three new comedians on their show after the departure of the actress and comedian, Leslie Jones.
The hiring of three new cast members: Bowen Yang(show’s first Chinese-American performer), Chloe Fineman and Shane Gillis were well deserved for them.
But by the end of the day, the show regretted hiring Gillis after a video of the comedian making racist statements and using slurs about Chinese people went viral on Twitter. The clip was from the episode 98 of “Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast” aired n September 2018.
However, Gillis immediately made an apology for his mistake clarifying that he didn’t mean to hurt anybody just he wanted to be the best comedian.
Previously, Good Good Comedy Theatre stopped working with him because of racist, homophobic and sexist things he said on and offstage.
