Michel Francois Platini, popularly known as Michel Platini is a French former football player, manager, and administrator. He is regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time and was voted sixth in the FIFA Players of the Century vote. He has won Ballon d’Or three times. As a player, he played for Nancy, Saint-Etienne, and Juventus and earned several achievements. He represented France national team from 1972 until retirement in 1987. Following his retirement, he became France’s national team’s coach for four years.

He was elected as the president of the Union of European Football Association (UEFA) in 2007. He also held the positions of chairman of FIFA’s Technical and Development Committee and vice president of the French Football Federation. He started his youth career at local club AS Jœuf in 1966.

He started his senior professional career at the French club Nancy in 1972.

He won 1980-81 Division 1 with Saint-Etienne.

He helped France to finish third in the 1986 FIFA World Cup.

He scored 41 goals for France national team in 72 competitions.

He played his last appearance for France in April 1987 against Iceland.

His final match came in November 1988. Kuwaiti Emir requested Platini to represent Kuwait in an international friendly match against the Soviet Union. He made a rare feat of appearing for more than one country at a full international level.

Managerial Career

He became the coach of the French national team in November 1988.

He led the France national team to qualify for the 1992 European Championship winning all eight of their group matches.

He was named Manager of the Year by the World Soccer Awards.

He stepped down as coach following France’s first-round elimination from the tournament.
