Princess Charlene of Monaco absent at this year’s Sainte Dévote festivities for health reasons

Recently, Princess Charlene of Monaco was unable to attend a royal function due to her ill-health. The palace authorities shared an update on her health. They explained why the Princess and mom if two kids was absent from the annual function.

Every year, Sainte Dévote festivities are held in Monaco which royal family members attend. But this year, Princess Charlene of Monaco was absent at this royal event of her country. The mom of two was unable to grace the occasion due to her poor health. The Palais Princier shared an update on her health and explained the reason for her unfortunate absence at the show.

The statement read:

“The convalescence of H.S.H. Princess Charlene is currently progressing in a satisfactory and very encouraging way. Her recovery as well as the follow-up of Her dental care still having to take several weeks, the Princess will unfortunately not be able to attend the festivities of the Sainte Dévote this year,”

Further, the statement said:

“With Her husband H.S.H. Prince Albert II, She wholeheartedly joins forces with all Monegasques and residents on the occasion of these celebrations. As soon as Her health permits, it will be with joy that the Princess will once again share moments of conviviality with them,”

During this period, the Royal Couple asks that their privacy and that of their children continue to be respected.”

What ails Charlene?

In May 2021, Princess Charlene had contracted a serious infection of ear, nose and throat. The information on her illness was limited. But she was held up in Africa for several months due to it. In November 2021, her husband, Prince Albert had told People magazine that his wife was undergoing some medical treatment outside the nation of Monaco. He did not elaborate more in her ailment. Nor did the Prince specify where she was having the treatment. But the Princess returned to Monaco the same month. She has not made any public appearances since her return and also missed this year’s Sainte Dévote festivities.

The Prince and palace authorities have been very secretive about the nature of her illness, its progress, and prognosis. They have shared no details on it with the outer world and press. The Princess turned 44 this 25 January 2022.

The Sainte Dévote festivities 2022

Though the Princess could not make it for the traditional Sainte Dévote festivities, her husband Prince Albert and her twin children, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, both seven years of age were present at the event. Prince Albert’s sister, Princess Caroline and his nephew, Louis Ducruet were with them during the boat burning ceremony on Wednesday 26 January 2022. Princess Caroline was also present at the mass held in Monaco Cathedral on Thursday 27 January 2022. She also stood at the palace balcony with her brother, and niece and nephew.

Prince Albert was in a blue suit and red tie. While Jacques wore a navy blazer with a red contrast trim. Gabriella was in a red and blue dress, which she accessorized with a pearl headband.
